Upside Down Down Under

---Think about a globe for a second, find NZ but don’t rotated the earth, then picture me standing on the southern most point of the south island holding on for dear life so I don’t fall off the bottom of the world. Well that’s what I did today.---

This morning we woke up and the chickens had already been fed, Sheila had already fallen through a hole in the floor, Rata had cut her out and the kids were all ready to go to town to do various activities. These farm families are early risers :) I had a delicious cereal called Light’n’Tasty with Apricots. In NZ whenever there is dried fruit in something (cereal, granola bar, chocolate,...) it’s apricot. Interesting...at home it’s usually dehydrated strawberries or raisins. They do like raisins here, but they call them sultanas. Yeah that is weird. Anyway, because Sheila was out for the day and Rata was sheep farming for the day, we got a list for the day.
-fold laundry
-fold and count rugby shirts and shorts
-hang washing
-vacuum house
-wipe down bathroom
-sweep laundry room
-wipe down appliances in laundry room
So we did all that in a few hours and proceeded to make a picnic lunch. We made BCT sandwiches. The bacon was from their pigs and we had to cut the skin(with hair) off of it before we fried it. We packed up our lunch and got out the bikes they said we could used and started off to attempt to bike around to the edge of the earth where it starts sloping to the south pole. We did. We walked a few up hills because I’m not in shape and the bikes were a tad jank. It was a pretty hard ride/hike. The Slope Point was mean (aka awesome)! It had a great view and a great sign. We took some ridiculous pictures, hypothesized about the surrounding rocks (which we conglomerate interbedded with sandstone), ate our lunch and started the trek back. It was about a 20km round trip. Legit.

When we got back we worked on dinner prep and watched the kids play wii. Dinner was incredible! It was cooked vegetables and venison steak! Right after dinner we all were watching this surviving sustainable foods show thing and the dude said “Remember, there is no meat without the death of an animal.” Thank you Kiwi TV man, that is insightful :) It’s my favorite quote so far! I love southland and all it’s meat eating.

We got a chocolate fix from Sheila with hot chocolate, a piece of fudge and two squares of lindt milk chocolate. Sweet as! After a bit of TV and internet (i.e. posting blog posts) I was about to fall asleep, so I called it a night. I didn’t want to go to the sheep shed to brush my teeth so I used the rain off the roof and my water bottle. Lazy as. Then I wrote a bit for my blog and quickly fell asleep.
