Tuesday (April 20) started out rough for the home team. I fell asleep in stats. Then I finished my foraminifera project! I have discovered that I am more of a hard rock (igneous and metamorphic...and music for that matter) person than a soft rock (sedimentary and K103 fm). This project, slide and report was about 20% of my grade, I hope I cared enough. It’s hard when I have Borland due too, which is worth more, I like it better, ....but it doesn’t count for a requirement back home. Haha....I hope I don’t get back to the States and someone asks me a simple sed/strat question and I can’t answer it. I can identify Globigerina incognita though!! (that’s a planktic foram). Oh well. I went to ballet class and it was such a good break from studying, like a fresh breath. I made a quick Rob Roy’s run for ice cream with some friends, YUM! Then headed to the geo building for a late night. My idea this time was Country and Coke. Coffee and Classic rock worked for me earlier and this was definitely a good call. :) I worked on Borland till 5am...Marguerite and I were swapping sweet music, she showed me my new favorite song “Maybe Tomorrow”! At 4:00 some of the kiwi geology guys busted into the lab we were working in to say hi and hang out for a second. It was a fun surprise when we thought we were the only two in the building! At 5ish when we left we had the brilliant idea to make paper airplanes and write stuff on them and throw them in the lab that the guys were working on their forams in. I wrote “4ams @ for am”....hahahaha and I still think that’s pretty clever for 4:45 in the morning :)
After only 3 hours of sleep Wednesday was not ideal, I again fell asleep for a second in stats (that guy is SO boring). My T-shirt design project is falling together and I pwnd my statistics homework in just a few hours!
When I went home I ended up doing a ton of dishes and I was getting really frustrated...then I GOT A POSTCARD FROM DUBLIN FROM MEREDITH!! It totally made my day! On my way to the geo building I got a triple shot mocha, which tastes like nasty soil and acid, and started my huge cross-section for Borland. It’s fun hanging out with all the stressed second years who are all in 252 :) Drew and I bought huge geologic maps of the South Island from the department for $10! BEST PURCHASE EVER! It’s going on my wall at home/ohio, with the chrono diagram of NZ stages! I’m so excited. Now I’m coveting the North Island Map to make it a set...but I don’t think I have a big enough wall to orient them appropriately. ;) Drew is collecting geomaps of all the countries he has been to. I think that is such a brilliant idea! I’m about 10 countries behind though. :P
I was quite wired and I ended up staying up ALL NIGHT working. Paul was in the geo building too. So at about 6:30am we went back to his flat, he’s my neighbor, and made crepes for breakfast. Delicious. I didn’t know crepes were so easy! I have a recipe at home that is really intense, but this one was super easy. Here it is:
All-Nighter Crepes
2 cups milk, 2 cups flour, and 3 eggs
-Remember to tip the pan in a circle to spread he batter really thin!
-Put anything you want on top!
So after breakfast I took a shower to wake up a bit and headed to stats class, got more coffee, ate some food then worked more. At some point in the evening I was still at the geo building and I hadn’t eaten in a while. I have the greatest friends here!! I don’t understand how I got so blessed! Michelle and Simon made Paul and I Chocolate Banana French Toast because they knew we were so tired and had so much to do. Today was the day of awesome breakfast food apparently. Late tonight we were told that if we were going on the Basins class field trip this weekend we didn’t have to finish tonight! We got an extension till Tuesday at noon. What a relief!
