On Wednesday nights the Smith’s have prayer group/bible study at their house. Laura and I showered and come back over to the house for that. They get together and watch a DVD by Joseph Prince of Singapore. The one we watched was about the Father’s love and how he is our Abba, Daddy.
The biggest thing I remember from this dvd sermon was a story he told.
---A pastor was preaching and invited an elderly man from the congregation to come up to say a few words. The old man came up and said he just wanted to tell a story. He started by saying, there was a dad who took his son and his son’s friend out on a boat on the pacific coast. In a freak accident it capsized and both the boys fell over board. The dad only had one emergency rope. He had the choice in front of him of which boy to save. He knew his son would go to heaven but the other boy would not. In that moment this dad yelled “I love you!” to his son and threw the rope to the other boy...his own son sunk under the waves never to return.
God had to make this devastating, heart wrenching choice. He chose you. Grab the rope. It cost God his only son.
To make it even more sweet a sacrifice Jesus also had the choice to save himself or you. He chose you and suffered an excruciating death so you could have life, life to the fullest.
The old man telling the story was approached by some young men after the service, they told him that they thought it was a cool story but they didn’t think it was true. No dad would do that. The old man replied that he thought someone would say that and he knows it’s true because he is the dad and the pastor of the church is the boy he saved out of the ocean.---
