Statistics Absent Mindedness and Mother’s Day

After my Milford Track weekend I was supposed to be consumed by statistics. It’s hard to become consumed in something so mundane after such an out of the ordinary weekend. You would think that after a long weekend of oatmeal and couscous I would branch with my culinary choices, but no. I continued to eat oatmeal and couscous all the time.

Mother’s Day came around and I can’t communicate how thankful I am for my mom and how much I love her. I texted her, emailed her and skyped her....so I hope she knows :) She was hanging out with Jake and Kristin in Oklahoma when I talked to her. I’m so glad she was with some of her kids. She also told me some bad news though. My dog Honest is gone. When I was at school talking to my mom on the computer I couldn’t help but tear up. He ran away and never came back. We think that someone took him. I’m so sad whenever I think about him and not being able to see him everyday I’m home and talk to him about everything.

The weather in Dunedin is really similar to the Autumn season in the Northwest, so I feel quite at home in the cold rainy-ness.

I took a statistics exam. There are very few exams in this course so this was a big deal....and I didn’t do that flash. I did fine (don’t worry I’m not failing) but I could just see the result of not focusing solely on school. I’m quite distracted with New Zealand.

The night after my exam I wanted to go swing dancing. So I asked around, but no one was really going out. I did hear that there was live jazz music at Robert Burns aka Robbie Burns on George St. and sometimes swing dancing. Jessie really wanted to go out so we decided to see what Robbie was all about. Well it was a pretty empty little pub with an average age quite advanced for a university town. The band was made up of 4 elderly gentlemen and they were great. No one was dancing so we just sat and listened....it was a really relaxing night. I think I found my new favorite Thursday night hang out! I did end up swing dancing with a really old dance teacher dude for a song. It was interesting, I thought I was going to break him by just holding his hand and sholder....he was wearing purple socks. After that swing fiasco Jessie and I went home and watched a movie. It was a fun night to follow an exam.

Friday morning was supa awk. I went to stats class in a huge lecture theater at 10am. I walked in 5 minutes late (like always) so it has already started and the doors are in the front of the class. I sat down for .5 seconds and after the professor I had never seen before started talking about an organ of the body I understood that this was not my class. At. All. So I got up and walked out loudly banging by backpack on the door as I went out. I sat down on the nearest bench to ponder what the heck was going on.....simply to realize that I haven’t had stats class on Friday all semester.
